So What is the Difference Between Plasma and LCD Television Sets? Though both plasma and LCD sets look alike, there is a lot that is different about them. In the Plasma vs LCD scenario, it is important to note that both types of sets are equipped with a flat screen and a thinner appearance. However, a plasma television uses gas plasma cells that are electrically charged to create your televisions picture. On the other end of the spectrum is an LCD screen that uses liquid crystals that are housed between two pieces of glass to create your picture.
